SPRING WALK 2011
The Spring Walk was organised by George
Isherwood, to be held at the Queen Elizabeth Country Park, Nr Petersfield on Sunday May 1st
. Peter and myself decided that
we would take all three (perhaps two and half would be more apt!) dogs as the
weather was pleasant in Essex and the 250 mile round trip seemed OK to us – mad
or what?!
We arrived at 1pm and no sign of any Welshies or their owners, but we enjoyed lunch in the Cafe
and George and his grandson appeared, closely followed by various Welshies and their owners. We eventually had 16 dogs, the
oldest being nearly 11 years old and the youngest just 13 weeks, (both our own
as it happens) neither of which did the whole walk of course. The main group thoroughly enjoyed the walk of
around 4 miles, a slow, gentle upward climb to some wonderful views from the
highest point, then a bit of level walking and down to the Car Park. The weather was fantastic for dog walking,
fine and dry and just warm enough without being hot, what more could we ask? A well earned ‘cuppa’ at the Cafe and nice chat before leaving for
our various homes.
Personally we arrived home at 7pm, so a
very long day and quite a lot of miles covered but it was worth it to enjoy the
sight of many Welsh Springers once again running free
and without a cross word all day, just as it should be. Next Spring? – well
for us it needs to be a bit nearer to Essex, surely someone in the Club would
like to organise such a walk for our Members in or around the Ken/ West Sussex
area? I for one, will be there if that should happen.
