TRAINING DAY AT STEPHEN PICK’S HOME AT EAST HOATHLY

HELD ON SUNDAY 6TH JUNE 2010

What a successful day this was! Not only the weather which was very kind to us (despite dire warnings from the ‘weather men’), it was pleasantly warm but not too hot for most of the day, and just a little rain very late on when on our way home.

Around 50 trainees had booked places prior to the day and most arrived in time to take advantage of the Bacon Butties before taking on the various disciplines.

The Trimming Workshop was very popular with many ‘pet’ owners learning how to keep their beloved dogs nice and tidy and comfortable. Agility is always great fun with our dogs and I understand that most of them managed to complete the course on the day – even if it took a great deal of determination in some cases!

Obedience is of course totally ‘natural’ for our beloved Welshies,(NOT!) they can all do it so well – but rarely show us this capability. However today, it was amazing that the Good Citizens Bronze Scheme was entered by 17 dogs and ALL of them passed and received their diploma and rosette at the end of the day, including one of 14 years of age – bless!

The Gundog Training was, as ever, very popular and a good standard was reached by most.

After a superb two course lunch, provided by our ‘Catering Manager’ Pam Wren, and served by the Committee,  the afternoon consisted of little ‘Tests’ in each discipline for those who wished to take part and the ’top people and dogs’  were as follows:

Trimming a paw: Janey Sutherland, Sandra Wright and Paddy Hughes.

Agility: Carly & Bryn “for sticking with it until eventually Bryn went happily through the tunnel”, Shannon & Ruby “for showing promise” and Charles & Connie “for getting a clear round”.

Field/Gundog: 1stMaaika & Bertie, 2nd – Ralph & Russ, 3rd – Jo & Chester, 4th – Paul & Gilbert with Special Awards for their retrieves going to Charles & Connie and Molly & Megan

Good Citizen: Janey & Soda the oldest WSS at 14 years young and Joanna and Chester the youngest WSS at 4 months old to pass on the day.
