CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

SUNDAY 12TH OCTOBER 2008-10-22

Judge – HAZEL LEARY

BITCHES

Thank you all for such a good entry.  I would like to thank the Club for their kind invitation, as always, a pleasant and efficiently run show.  I spent an extremely enjoyable afternoon doing something that gives me great pleasure.

Generally the bitches were of good temperament, and were shown in tip-top condition, but is it me being paranoid, or are bitches getting bigger?  Instead of the usual one or two being present, there were several ‘big girls’.  Of course, ‘size’ is only one factor for consideration when making judging decisions, therefore I had to forgive some of the class winners because they scored well in ‘Breed points’ and sound conformation in spite of their size.

3. Morgan & Roberts’ CWRT AFON LLONA

OPEN BITCH (10)

The most challenging class of the day. Full of top quality girls. It was difficult to select the final five, but even more challenging to decide the winner. Both bitches are a credit to their breeders, in producing two beautiful girls. In my summing up of them they both scored equally in all the essential areas. The decision to place one over the other was long and heart-searching.

1. Rees’ COEDYBRAIN CARYS AT TYPICA JW

Came into the ring as though she owned it. Did not let her handler down. Beautiful proportioned body and proud head carriage. Mature head – with correct amount of work in it. Wonderful expression. He eyes never leave you. A bit more of her than No 2. So balanced standing, and keeping herself together on the move. In good hard condition. Neck of correct length and flows well into sloping shoulders. She just screamed ‘Welsh’ at me.  Ideal length of upper arm, well ribbed and coupled. On the move she has power and accuracy. CC & BOB.

2. Tain’s SH CH INSMANS ACER AT TAIMERE JW

A beautiful compact bitch of top quality. Has a beautiful head and expression, which could never be mistaken for anything other an ‘Welsh’. She has great balance and shape. Well ribbed and coupled. Smaller than No 1 and perhaps more glamorous overall. Coat of correct colour and excellent condition. She moved true coming and going, but in profile I wish she had put a bit more drive into her rear action. Res CC.
