SOUTH EASTERN WELSH SPRINGER SPANIEL CLUB

OCTOBER 14TH 2007

I thoroughly enjoyed my day and would like to thank all the exhibitors. Temperament and presentation were excellent throughout but lack of size and substance in some classes concerns me.  They are a dual-purpose breed and I felt these dogs would not take a hard day in the field.

MINOR PUPPY DOG 6(1abs)

1          Deans’s MENSTONIA MIST CHANCE OVER PASONDELA. Well proportioned puppy, good reach of neck, compact with good bend of stifle and nice feet. Very balanced on the move for 6 months.

2          Ferguson’s MENSTONIA MISTY MOUNTAIN.   Litter brother to 1 and very little to choose between them. Lovely head and expression, good lay of shoulder and angulation. Moved well.

3          Irvine’s BUSHWACKER CHILLI PEPPER.

PUPPY DOG 3

1          Thomas’ BOWDONIA SPECIAL EFFECTS. Just reaching the rangy stage but well put together and balanced in shape. Sweet expression with dark eye. Plenty of bone, well angulated with correct rise over loin BPD.

2          Enderby’s TOBERMYN DAWN RAIDER. Smaller mould than 1 and not quite such a good topline. Lovely head and neck. Compact, with sufficient angulation. Well let down hocks and good feet.

3          Wren’s GWYMARREN WINTER STORM

JUNIOR DOG 4

1          Jones’ PENNYLOCK QUIN JW. Very mature for his age. Well angulated with excellent upper arm. Typical Welsh head, strong neck, good feet, correct rise over loin and in good hard condition. Would like a little more length of leg.

2          Evans’ BWGAN LLWYD. Lighter built than 1 and racier overall. Needs time. Pleasant head, good angulation, well let down hocks, moved freely and with drive.

3          Baker’s KAZVAL SHADOW LEADER OF ANISBESCO

SPECIAL YEARLING DOG 5

1          White’s FIERGEN BREAK DANCER. Good Welsh head with lovely reach of neck. Plenty of bone, well angulated behind with super lay of shoulder giving free movement. Still very raw but all there. Needs time.

2          Smith’s AMBLIGHT MERCURY. Nice head with sweet expression. Good angulation and merry on the move. Narrower overall with less substance than winner.

3          Batey’s AMBLIGHT CENTAURI

MAIDEN DOG

1          Enderby’s TOBERMYN DAWN RAIDER

2          Kerr’s JULITA RADLEY. Still very much a youngster and needs time to mature and develop his back end. Reasonable angulation and well let down hocks. Moved well.

3          Graham’s NYLIRAM NEW LOOK

NOVICE DOG 3

1          Smith’s AMBLELIGHT MERCURY

2          Tanner & Crowther’s TANNAMOOR BRYCHAN. Still very much a baby but compact and a pleasing outline. Well let down hocks and good feet. Moved steadily. Would like a bit more of him overall.

3          Kerr’s JULITA RADLEY

GRADUATE DOG 4

1          White’s FIERGEN BREAK DANCER

2          Masson’s PEAKDALE CESTYN AP DAFYDD MANMOEL. Compact dog with good head and reach of neck. Well let down hocks and correct rise over loin. Not as well angulated as 1 which led to rather choppy movement.

3          Smith’s AMBLELIGHT MERCURY

POST GRADUATE DOG 7(2abs)

1          Connolly’s MENSTONIA MAHLER AT BENMORBRY. Well proportioned young dog with still a way to go but so positive on the move with lovely driving action. Typical head with kind expression. Well angulated with lovely lay of shoulder. Good tail set although a little proud at the moment RCC.

2          Renouf & Montague’s RANWOLF DELLING. Pleasing head and reach of neck. Good proportions but I would have preferred a bit more overall. Well let down hocks, good feet. Moved well but sadly did not use his tail.

3          Ferguson’s MENSTONIA MEDITATE.

MID LIMIT DOG 6

1          Wakeman’s SHERDREW ECHO POINT. Pleasing Welsh head with kind expression. Sufficient bone, well angulated with good lay of shoulder and reach of neck. Tight feet and correct rise over loin.

2          Masson’s COEDYBRAIN GERAINT OF MANMOEL. Compact dog with a pleasant head, correct rose over loin.

3          Jackson’s MENSTONIA MIAMI VICE

LIMIT DOG 6(1abs)

1          Neilson’s ARKVIEW CHICAGO AT LLAWKRIK. Lovely masculine dog who filled the eye. I’ve admired him from the ringside and he didn’t disappoint. Adequate bone, close coupled, good head and reach of neck. Correct outline and moved purposefully. On form today which won him the CC.

2          Barnes’ BARHI CROUCHING TIGER ShCM. Another very nice dog but slightly longer cast therefore not so balanced in outline. Lovely Welsh head, well angulated and deep brisket. Sound driving movement.

3          Scarth & Leicester’s RUSSETHILL ROBYN ADAIR

OPEN DOG 7

1          Tully & Curtis’ SH CH HIGHCLARE BOSUNS MATE. Balanced dog throughout with correct topline. Good head and reach of neck, tight feet, well angulated and good depth of brisket. So happy on the move.

2          Rees’ TYPICA GOLDIGGER JW ShCM. Another lovely dog in good hard condition. Lovely expression, good strong neck, correct rise over loin, well angulated and so balanced.

3          Troth’s TAIMERE’S TURNABOUT FOR COLLINGSMORE JW

VETERAN DOG 11(1abs)

1          Michie’s SCOTTIES LAD OF TOBERMYN. Hard to believe this boy is 12. Put the youngsters to shame on movement. So typy and sound and enjoying his day out. Good head, lovely expression, strong neck, well angulated and so balanced.

2          Buckwell’s KILLENA DANCE INTO THE LIGHT. Another super oldie. Correct outline with good reach of neck. So sound and moved straight and true with drive.

3          Jackson’s MENSTONIA MAGIC MEMORY

SPECIAL BEGINNERS DOG 2

1          Tanner & Crowther’s TANNERMOOR BRYCHAN

2          Smith’s AMBLELIGHT MERCURY

3          Jackson’s MENSTONIA MIAMI VICE

SPECIAL WORKING DOG 2

1          White’s FIERGEN BREAK DANCER

2          Poulson’s WELSHSPRINGS ALDABO FIDO MASTERPIECE. Mature dog in good hard condition. Nice head and kind expression, good depth of brisket, adequately angulated and moved purposefully.

GOOD CITIZENS 4

1          Jackson’s MENSTONIA MIAMI VICE JW. Good solid mature male, unlucky in who he met in previous classes. Typical Welsh head, good reach of neck leading to nice lay of shoulder. Correct rise over loin, good feet. Moved soundly.

2          Troth’s SH CH TAIMERE’S TURNABOUT FOR COLLINSMORE JW. Slightly lighter built than 1, pleasing head and expression, well angulated and moved well although not so true from the front today.

3          Tubb’s MELLADOMINA MAKE HASTE FOR ALSUTU.
