FUNDAY  10TH JUNE 2007-06-11 Held at Furzelands Farm, Essex the home of Julie and Peter Revill and the Julita Welshies.

A wonderful day was held at Furzelands Farm on 10th June where the weather could hardly have been better, starting off overcast but warm, and ending up with nice sunny afternoon, requiring the gazebos to keep the dogs (and people) out of the heat. The day began with delicious ‘bacon butties’ provided by Sandy Batey who also assisted in the kitchen during the rest of the day – very popular!

The Fun Dog show was judged by Penny North (Tipastree Golden Retrievers), was ably organised by Janice Lansley and stewarded by our President, Doreen Bowen. Penny made Ralph Wright’s Rory (Amblelight Redshift) Best of the Day from the Golden Oldies Class, with Emma Wren’s Lilly (Glenbrows Playtime at Gwymarren) Reserve Best in Show. Best Baby Puppy was Julie Frost’s Ruby (Bushwacker Atomic Kitten) and she was also Best Puppy of the Day, with Reserve Best Puppy being Pam Wren’s Bevan (Gwymarren Winter Storm.). Kathleen Abbot’s wee baby bitch Tasha (Norlington Natasha) was Reserve Best Baby Puppy.

Chris Davis was pressed into service to run the Scurries and the single retrieve Scurry  was won by Penny North’s Piccolo (Golden Retriever) in a time of 11.6 seconds closely followed by Archie (ESS) and Julie Revill’s Kari(WSS) with only half a second between them! The scurry without retrieve was won by Milly (sorry no owners name given) in a time of 8.8 seconds. The Obstacle Course provided and run by Anne Caldwell with her friend Irene and George Isherwood’s assistance was won by Emma Wren’s Lilly in a wonderful time of 29 seconds.

During the day various competitions took place, Di Renny once again organised a photo competition which was won after a tie break by Sue Tubb, the Guess the name of the frog (called HUGH) run by Anna Popkin and won by Joyce Carr who was microchipping many dogs during the day.  Roll a Ball was won by Andrew from a local village, Hatfield Peverel – (no surname given – sorry). Steve Pick was kept busy (between other duties!) providing Assessments of many pet and/or show dogs for their owners, this was once again very popular.

The new innovation of Nail Clipping for £2.50 run by Emma Wren was used by numerous pet owners during the day, who were also treated to foot and ear trimming if required. Emma also did an excellent trimming demonstration for pet people which was watched closely by many, whilst Mum, Pam, presided over the Nearly New Stall, alongside Ralph Wright and his welshie game ,Sharon Jones selling Club Supplies, and Sue and Alan Tubb with a huge Raffle. Christine McDonald had lent many old scrapbooks and other items that were available for anyone to look at throughout the day and proved very interesting to those who took advantage – Julie Revill found a photo of herself in a ‘six legged race’ looking somewhat slimmer and a lot more agile,  she noted!

Many people who came along brought cakes and fruit pies which were snapped up by hungry revellers after the super Ploughmans Lunch which served around 80 people. The kitchen was absolutely ‘manic’ for most of the day and enormous thanks have to go to Sam (Julie and Peter’s daughter in law), Julie’s friend, Maureen, who actually came along with her grandson for a day out and ended up assisting in the kitchen  for most of the time and Di Monday who with husband Ray, stayed the weekend with Julie and Peter and assisted in setting up, and the all important, taking down, of everything to make the event the success it was.
