FUN DAY REPORT 2006

On 11th June 2006 we once again held our annual Fun Day at Steve Pick’s (Chairman)  home in East Hoathly, and for the second year running it was a SIZZLING day.  A lovely crowd of welshie owners along with some ‘others’ attended, and a great day was had by all.  In the morning there were ‘fun’ classes for the dogs to enter and after a superb ploughmans lunch, the afternoon had a Fun Dog Show, both these events judged by Linda Lloyd who had travelled a very long way to attend – thank you Linda.

During the day refreshments were provided and the ice creams and ice lollies were probably the best sellers!  The Club Supplies were available, run as usual by Sharon Jones and a great competition organised by Di Renny where you had to match the Puppy to the Champion had a number of people glued to their seats for some while during the day, this was eventually won by Melissa Duncan who found 18 out of the 20 matches.

Bradley attended once again with Sue Tubb and guesses of his weight went on during the day, Sue also ran the superb raffle with Alan. Ralph Wright organised his welshie game and Gordon Batey his Roll a Ball competition, made even more difficult this year by being run on grass which, to say the least, was not exactly level!  The Retrieves of dummies in the woods were enjoyed by many welshies attending with differing degrees of competence and the single retrieve was won by Paddy with Tali,            and the retrieve of 3 dummies by Hugh McLellan and Spice. The Wellie Wanging run by Julie and Peter Revill was extremely competitive in the mens’ competition with a father and son fighting it out all day, son eventually winning over his dad with an enormous ‘wang’ of 26metres 80cms. The ladies longest ‘wang’ was managed by Sam Dyer with 18 metres and 99cms and the childrens’ winner was Mattie Jones with 11 metres.

Gipsy Sipsi once again attended and was kept very busy reading many dog’s paws, she is fast becoming an institution at our Fun Days perhaps we should request that she put next year into her diary now!

All in all, a good day and lots of money raised. Thanks to all who attended and all those who put so much into the day, not forgetting Steve who was heard to comment that he had now had ‘lawn mowers elbow’ !!
