SOUTH EASTERN WELSH SPRINGER SPANIEL CLUB

 Judges Lists Criteria

A1 LIST

For persons who have been previously approved by the Kennel Club to award CCs in the breed and have completed their first appointment, and have the support of the South Eastern Welsh Springer Spaniel Club.


NOTE: The South Eastern Welsh Springer Spaniel Club believes that all championship Show judges should adhere to their contract and provide a critique each time they judge the breed.  It is therefore intended that if such a critique is not provided within 3 months of the show, without in the opinion of the Committee, a valid reason, then the Committee will reserve the right to remove that person from the Judging List.

A2 LIST

For persons who fulfil all the requirements for the A3 list and who have been assessed in accordance with Kennel Club requirements and accepted by The Kennel Club for inclusion on an A2 list and have the support of the South Eastern Welsh Springer Spaniel Club.

A3 LIST  (BREED SPECIALIST)

1.        To have owned or exhibited the breed for a minimum of 10 years and to have bred/owned a minimum of 3 dogs/bitches when they obtained their 1st entry in The Kennel     Club Stud Book   (save in exceptional circumstances)

2.        To have judged at a minimum of 10 Open Shows totalling at least 60 classes for the breed, the classes to have contained at least 120 dogs present.  Judging appointments
          should exhibit an even geographical spread and span a minimum 10 year period.
 
3.        To have completed one and preferably two appointments at WSS Breed Club Shows, at two different Breed Clubs.
     
4.       To have stewarded over a minimum of 12 days at shows.

5.        To agree to write show critiques as required by the Kennel Club.

6.        To have attended a Seminar on the Requirements of a Dog Show Judge focusing on Kennel Club Regulations and Judging Procedures and pass an exam delivered by an
            approved Kennel Club Accredited Trainer for Regulations and Judging Procedures.

7.        To have attended and passed the Points of a Dog assessment conducted by specially trained Conformation and Movement Accredited Trainer.

8.        To have attended a seminar on Conformation and Movement delivered by an approved Kennel Club Accredited Trainer for Conformation and Movement and passed the examination  and/or assessment where applicable.

9.         To have attended at least one Breed Specific Seminar run in accordance with the relevant Kennel Club Code of Practice and passed an examination and/or assessment
where applicable.

10.        To have attended an Open Field Trial or an Open Gundog Test (GWT) for a Gundog Breed in the relevant sub-Group.

11.       To have the support of the South Eastern Welsh Springer Spaniel Club.

A3 LIST (NON SPECIALIST)

It is not necessary for an applicant in this section to have owned/exhibited or achieved success in the show ring with Welsh Springer Spaniels, however, the same standard of success within their own breed(s) is necessary, that is to have owned and exhibited for a minimum of 10 years, and to have bred or exhibited 3 dogs/bitches of any breed when they obtained their 1st entry in The Kennel Club Stud Book (save in exceptional circumstances).
Also:

1.         To have judged at a minimum of 10 Open Shows totalling at least 40 classes for WSS and to have contained a total of at least 120 dogs present.


2.         To have at least 10 years experience of judging other breeds (to include 5 years in this breed).


3.         To have completed one and preferably two appointments at WSS Breed Club Shows, at two different Breed Clubs.


4.         To have awarded CCs in at least one other breed


5.          To have stewarded over a minimum of 12 days at shows.


6.          To agree to write show critiques as required by the Kennel Club.


7.          To have attended and passed the Points of a Dog assessment conducted by specially trained Conformation and Movement Accredited Trainer.


8.         To have attended a seminar on Conformation and Movement delivered by an approved Kennel Club Accredited Trainer for Conformation and Movement and passed the examination and/or assessment where applicable.


9.          To have attended a Seminar on the Requirements of a Dog Show Judge focusing on Kennel Club Regulations and Judging Procedures and pass an exam delivered by an approved Kennel Club Accredited Trainer for Regulations and Judging Procedures.


10.       To have attended at least one Welsh Springer Spaniel Breed Specific Seminar run in accordance with the relevant Kennel Club Code of Practice and passed an examination and/or assessment where applicable.


11.        To have attended an Open Field Trial or an Open Gundog Test (GWT) for a Gundog Breed in the relevant sub-Group


12.       To have the support of the South Eastern Welsh Springer Spaniel Club.
           

B LIST (BREED SPECIALIST)


Requirements include:


1.         At least 3 years judging experience in this breed.


2.         To have judged the breed at least 5 Open Shows or Championship Shows without CCs.


3.         To have judged at least 20 classes in the breed containing at least 50 dogs present, with a good geographical spread.


4.         To have owned/exhibited the breed for 5 years.


5.         To have bred/exhibited at least one dog/bitch entered in the Stud Book.


6.         To have attended at least one Breed Specific Seminar run in accordance with the relevant Kennel Club Code of Practice and passed an examination and/or assessment where applicable.


7.         Preferably to have attended and passed the Points of a Dog assessment conducted by specially trained Conformation and Movement Accredited Trainer.


8.         Preferably to have attended a seminar on Conformation and Movement delivered by an approved Kennel Club Accredited Trainer for Conformation and Movement and  passed the examination and/or assessment where applicable.


9.          Preferably to have attended a Seminar on the Requirements of a Dog Show Judge focusing on Kennel Club Regulations and Judging Procedures and pass an exam delivered by an  approved Kennel Club Accredited Trainer for Regulations and Judging Procedures.


10.       To have the support of the South Eastern Welsh Springer Spaniel Club.

B List (Non Specialist)


Requirements include:


1.         At least 3 years judging experience in this breed.


2.         To have judged the breed at least 5 Open Shows or Championship Shows without CCs.


3.         To have judged at least 20 classes in the breed (WSS) containing at least 50 dogs present, with a good geographical spread.


4.         To have bred and/or exhibited one dog/bitch when entered in the Kennel Club Stud Book.


5.         To have judged other Gundog breeds at at least 10 shows over a 7 year period.


6.         To have attended at least one Welsh Springer Spaniel Breed Specific Seminar run in accordance with the relevant Kennel Club Code of Practice and passed an examination and/or assessment.


7.         Preferably to have attended and passed the Points of a Dog assessment conducted by specially trained Conformation and Movement Accredited Trainer.


8.         Preferably to have attended a seminar on Conformation and Movement delivered by an approved Kennel Club Accredited Trainer for Conformation and Movement and  passed the examination and/or assessment where applicable.


9.          Preferably to have attended a Seminar on the Requirements of a Dog Show Judge focusing on Kennel Club Regulations and Judging Procedures and pass an exam delivered by an approved Kennel Club Accredited Trainer for Regulations and Judging Procedures.


7.         To have the support of the South Eastern Welsh Springer Spaniel Club

JEP LEVEL 4


1.          Attend and pass a breed-specific assessment for the specific breed run by the Kennel Club.

JEP LEVEL 3


1.           Undergo a minimum of three mentoring sessions with a minimum of 12 months between first and third session.


2.          Be observed judging a breed club show, breed supported entry show or championship show with CCs one mentoring sessions have been untaken.


3.         Complete remaining 10 full-day stewarding appointments (one time qualification)


4.         Have owned/bred a minimum of three dogs when they obtained their first entry in The Kennel Club Stud Book – save for exceptional circumstances (one time qualification for first breed in which a judge awards CCs)


5.         Attended the appropriated sub-group field trial/open gundog working test for first gundog breed or ring procedure at licensed show.


6.        Have achieved the relevant hands-on experience in line with the stated requirements for the relevant breed, tier 4: 60 dogs.

JEP LEVEL 2


1.         To attend a Welsh Springer Spaniel Breed Appreciation Day (BAD) and pass a multiple choice exam (MCE) or a Breed Specific Seminar with MCE passed.*

3.        Complete the critique writing seminar and take online quiz.

JEP LEVEL 1


1.       To have shown (proven) an active interest in the Breed for 5 years, or attended a breed specific seminar, and have the support of the Breed Clubs


2.      Attend a Conformation and Movement seminar hosted by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer.


3.       Complete a minimum of two full-day stewarding appointments.


4.       Attend a Requirements of a Dog Show Judge seminar and pass the associated exam (either in person or online via Kennel Club Acadamy, exam effective from 1st January 2024)


5.      Pass the Points of a Dog assessment conducted by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer (effective from 1 January 2024)

Note : The KC also recommend that judges should also access the KC academy to view the ring stewarding and critique writing seminars and relevant online quizzes.

* Existing CC judges are exempt from these elements of the criterion in order to be eligible for the Breed Clubs judging list.
